When I moved to Switzerland three years ago with the task of representing Cassina on the Swiss market, as an Italian I fully identified with the image of Cassina’s eclectic products. I admire the “eleganza milanese” and the courage of Italian women to combine bold, often contrasting colours or textures with traditional, bespoke, perfectly tailored clothing. To me, that is an expression of sophistication and self-confidence! Cassina embodies this courage to use colour and the combination of timeless design icons and modern creations in interior design—since 2015 under the creative direction of the Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.
All the more surprised I was to discover the rather understated aesthetic of Swiss living. A real culture shock!
Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate and understand the Swiss sense of understatement and reserve. Above all, I value Swiss culture for its commitment to quality and its love of detail. The culture of maintaining buildings, cities and gardens is also impressive and a role model for many others.
Still, I don’t see this as contradicting the courage to use more colour, because for me it’s an expression of pure joie de vivre.
Colour gives rooms character—and the trend colour jade in particular shows how harmony and expressiveness can come together perfectly. The soft green-blue stands for calm, elegance and a subtle vibrancy that brings a breath of fresh air to both fashion and interior design.
